As the first cutscene in the Infinite Mother series, InfiniteMother_v1.0 unfolds within a hellish dreamscape that subverts the archetypal shanshui (山水), or Chinese rockery. Rendered through an insectoid avatar, the work follows a daughter’s frenetic traversal of this terrain, driven by an unreciprocated desire for maternal recognition.
Real Girlfriend, Huozhu
Artist performance recorded in augmented reality. Single channel video, 2022. JO-HS, Mexico City, Mexico.
The video work loops endlessly and does not contain audio.
Real Girlfriend asks how desire and proximity are negotiated when intimacy is shaped for visibility. Presented as a single installment from an ongoing series, it forms part of a broader body of work investigating the affective dissonance between imagined intimacy and mediated presence.
Reverb, A Genetic Opera Performance using mitochondrial DNA, 2022.
The first iteration of Reverb: A Genetic Opera asked how inheritance might be felt rather than fixed, transposing the artist’s mitochondrial DNA into an operatic exchange with a soprano where lineage and agency remain unresolved. Conceived as an ongoing series of sonic rituals, the work translates matrilineal memory into vibration and voice, staging motherhood and daughterhood not as roles to be inherited but as frequencies that shift through listening.
Reverb, A Genetic Opera
ft. Ani Liu
Performance using mitochondrial DNA, 2023. MoMA Theater, New York.
A representative section of the performance may be found between minutes 0:34–2:00.
In its second iteration, Reverb: A Genetic Opera extends its inquiry through performance with invited participant Ani Liu. Lineage is mediated through voice and proximity, unfolding in real time through shared listening with an audience. Sound functions as a site where biological memory and cultural transmission are held in tension, carried through resonance rather than resolution.
